We all knew that the Government’s emergency budget would contain both tax rises – and service cuts. We wanted to know how consumer felt about the state of the economy – and their own personal finances – as a result. So, 6 days after the budget – time enough to let the implications sink in – we asked a nationally representative sample of just under 500 people what they felt about strength of the UK economy, their own personal financial situation, and their expectations regarding their own spending and donation activity over the next 12 months. The results? Well, let’s just say that if you think the problems are all over and consumers are going to return to their pre recession behaviour, than you may have a very rude awakening.
